ABOUT MY WORK

There is a two-fold focus to my work: light and beauty.

Light, receding, advancing, reflecting, slivers of light, manipulated or uncontrolled light, light… washing over the subject.  All of these are part of any given piece of my work; I enjoy the immense challenge light alone can play within a composition.  Each piece is born from an initial concept, and how light interacts within the painting is always, ultimately woven in the conversation.  It is an undeniable force, and plays its part in stunning variations of subtlety.

Light informs beauty.

There is simple beauty in still life; quiet, yet captivating.  An elegant vase, a single flower, a forgotten memento from another place and time, the graceful bowl with adorning fruit.  Of what story do these items speak, what history is forever sealed within their chambers?  The simple beauty of art reflects the simple beauty of life; yet reminds us of our own human vulnerability, ourselves living in but a sliver of time.
